Partial Sums Doggie

Well I got a dog named partial sums,
Mother said she’s smart,
She knows tens and ones
I took her to my class,
To see if she could add,
And she’s so smart, now I’m glad!

I showed her the math,
she pulled out something neat
She lined up place values,
It was something sweet,
She added up by places,
Hundreds tens and ones,
I named my dog, partial sums

Next she had to add,
3 partial sums we’ll see,
She looked up from her work
And barked 683!

So we made 2 columns
All by ourselves,
a 2 in the ones place
a 1 in the tens,
We could make a 12,
Tens are our friends!

Next we added tens,
We saw just 7 more,
We wrote them down below,
We figured out the score!

Then we added hundreds,
a third place value place,
We saw 8 hundreds,
8 hundreds was the case!

Now adding up the stack!
What we had to do,
We did it really quick to get 882!
