Page 3: Jake's Cupcakes

After the snack-witch was sure we were stuck to our chairs, she went around and opened all the bags of popcorn I’d given out for snack. popcorn
She dumped the popcorn in a pile and threw the wrappers on the floor. Then she shoved her mouth into the pile of popcorn and ate every piece. When she was done, she screamed, “I’m still hungry! I haven’t eaten for one thousand years!” and she began searching the classroom for more food.
“Aha! I smell something in here,” she said, as she flew over to the closet where the students had their lunches in bags. She took out every bag and put them on the table. We wanted to stop her, but there was nothing we could do! We just had to sit there and watch.
pizza cartoon“Yummy, yum yum!” she cried as she dumped all the lunches onto a desk in a big pile. Then she flew up to the top of the pile and began eating. The food was going into her mouth so quickly it was like watching a hungry shark feeding on its prey. Food wrappers and containers flew randomly around the classroom and I couldn’t even tell her to at least eat neatly.
While none of us could speak, I’m sure we were all thinking the same thing- DON’T EAT OUR LUNCH!
But the snack-witch did eat ALL our lunches and when she was done, she yelled, “I’m still hungry!” and began looking around for more food.
cupcakes cartoonI was pretty sure there was nothing left in the classroom for her to eat, but then I remembered it was Jake’s birthday. I also remembered that Jake had brought 12 cupcakes for us to eat during the birthday celebration we were going to have that afternoon. He had told me he’d baked the cupcakes himself and they were very special.
“What’s that delicious smell I smell?” asked the snack-witch as she flew to where I’d put the cupcake box under some papers on my desk.
“It’s the best smelling thing I ever smelled,” she said.
She grabbed the cupcake box and flew back to the desk and opened it.
We all saw the cupcakes and they were spectacular. There were sprinkles on top of creamy chocolate frosting that was spread perfectly on each one. I could see how much work Jake had put in to make them.
“These look so delicious. I’m really going to enjoy eating ALL of them. Now which one should I eat first?” asked the witch as she started humming happy birthday to herself.
We all struggled to get out of our chairs to stop her from eating the cupcakes but we were still stuck.

If each of the 12 cupcakes had 20 sprinkles on it, and the snack witch knocked off 200 sprinkles when she was trying to decide which one to eat, how many sprinkles were left on the cupcakes?
