Lesson: Quarters for Change
Grade Level: 4-6
Skills: Number sense, patterning, addition and subtraction

You have fifty $1.00 bills in your wallet, and each day you go to the ice cream store to buy dessert. Every item at the ice cream store costs $1.25, and the clerk at the store always gives you 3 quarters as change (you pay with two $1 bills). When you get home, you always put the 3 quarters in a glass jar.

How many days will it be before you have a greater number of quarters in the jar than dollar bills in your wallet? (you don’t add any money to your wallet during this time)
