Page 4: Turned to Statues

The ceiling people were not happy.
“You didn’t find all of our money!” they yelled as they aimed their flashlight looking thingees at us! “Now you’re going to pay the price!”
flashlight cartoonSuddenly orange beams began shooting out of their flashlights.
At first the beams felt funny and tingly, and we smiled, but then we noticed something strange.
None of us could move. Not one inch!
We could see, we could talk, but we couldn’t move a single bone in our bodies.
Once we were all as solid as statues, the leader of the ceiling people screamed, “Now take all their money!” and they jumped off the desk and started going through the students’ pockets and backpacks.
“Stop it!” we screamed, but there was nothing we could do to stop them. We couldn’t move anything but our mouths!
Jake had 19 cents in the bottom of his backpack which they took
Sarah had $2 hidden in her shoe for ice cream, which they took, and Jenna had 57 cents she had gotten for change for her egg and cheese sandwich that morning in the cafeteria. They took that too. Other than that, none of my students had any money.
wallet cartoonThere was one minor detail I must include now. My students didn’t have any money, but I did.
The ceiling people had saved me for last. They climbed up my leg. I tried to shake them off, but I couldn’t move.
They climbed into my pocket and pushed out my wallet.
It fell to the floor and they opened it.
They took out all the money.
There were a lot of bills wrapped up in a purple sheet of paper.
They threw the purple paper on the ground and began to count the money.
After a few minutes of counting, one of the ceiling people looked up. His eyes were huge with surprise. Then he screamed
“One million Dollars!”

If I had one million dollars and spent half of it on a house, then spent half of what was left on a yacht, and then spent $176,345 on a super fast car, how much would I have left?
