When adding two numbers,
Is usually done,
It makes things grow big,
Like flowers in sun...
But adding has ways,
To grow smaller too,
Like going from largest,
To much smaller shoe...
How does that happen?
You might wanna' ask,
Isn't adding things up,
A "get-bigger" task!!!
Usually so,
And that's what they've said,
But if you add negative,
You go down instead...
That is,
You get lower,
On the old number line,
Going straight left,
All of the time...
Adding negatives,
Is a "get-smaller" art!!!
You end up smaller,
Then you did at the start!
You still see a plus sign,
+
But it works in reverse,
When you add negative
It's from second to first,
From 3 to 2,
Or 7 to 5,
It's like losing yards,
It subtracts in disguise...
