A Place Value Halloween

It was dark,

And cold,

And cool,

And clammy,

I was wearing red jammies,

That looked like grand-mammies...

I was dressed as a ghost,

A goblin,

A ghoul,

I'd just returned,

From a long day at school...

I grabbed my pumpkin,

It was plastic of course,

And grabbed my sister,

Who was dressed as a horse,

We went out to get tricked,

We went out to be treated,

When it came to candy,

We wouldn't be cheated...

Let me first say,

My name is Ten,

And sister's name is Hundred...

And baby brother's, Name is one,

He's really a silly but fun-kid...

We went next door,

To the house of the Thousands,

They had 10 dogs,

 10 ducks,

Ten cows and,

They had 3 kids named,

One,

Ten,

Hundred,

And that made me think,

As I stood and wondered,

How did they have,

 The same names as us?

Thousands

Couldn't they be named,

Brenda or Russ ?

But that's okay,

I won't make any fuss...

They gave us 3 candies,

And we ran like a race,

The thousands were big,

And scared us back to our place...

At the next house,

On the left,

 On our spooky dark street...

I wasn't surprised,

When we got to meet,

The Millions family,

For they lived next door,

To the thousands...

So we walked up like before...

They had three kids,

One,

Ten,

Hundred,

That made me think,

As I stood and wondered,

How did they have,

 The same names as us?

Couldn't they be named,

Susanna or Gus?

But that's okay,

I won't make any fuss...

If they have 3 kids,

Named just like us,

We'll get 3 treats,

And that's a big plus!!!

But when they opened the door,

I let out a scream,

The Millions were giant,

Like a ton of ice cream!!!

So I grabbed sister, Hundred,

And I grabbed baby, One,

And I closed my ghost eyes,

And we started to run...

We ran past the Millions,

And the house of the Thousands,

And we ran past the dogs,

 And the ducks,

And the cows and...

We finally got back,

To our Mom and Dad's place,

I felt like we'd finished,

A 10-mile race...

We each got,

 In our spot,

In our beds,

We were sleepy,

And we dreamed of the Millions,

Who were so big and so creepy...
